Day 23- Return

SUNDAY JULY 8TH, 2007

 TWB DAY 23

TWB 2007 Trek 1 had its final moments together.

Day 23 Blog:
Today we woke up with an unfamiliar feeling, the feeling of uncertainty. We realized that after 5:00 p.m., we will no longer be together as Trek 1. We will always share the memories but we will no longer have the luxury of seeing each other 24 hours a day. This morning we were thirty minutes late leaving our campsite. This was not due to laziness, but instead due to trying to savor every last second we could. Although we were excited to see our families and friends, the thought of returning to Davidson College scared and depressed us. We spent all day on the road, except for a few bathroom and cleaning stops. The counselors refused to let anyone sleep on the bus or vans because it was our last day. They knew that today, more than any other, was the most important to stay awake. We stopped at Centre Church for our last time together. After collecting our lost and found as well as our gifts, we prepared for a moment we were not ready for. Saying goodbye was no where what we thought it was going to be. With many tears, hugs, and "I love yous," we slowly stepped away from our new homes, the Blue Streak, Miss America, and Carolina Panther, to return to our real homes. The only ease to our sadness is the thought that reunions are soon to come. We love our new T-DUB family and know we will stay friends forever.

Note from G-Rant, Kitchin Sink, LDUB, and Wheatboy:
This is by far the most bittersweet day of the trip. It absolutely breaks our hearts to know that we have to leave 84 participants that we have grown to love. Each participant has opened up and taught us so much about life. We were spoiled and now we don't want to return them. We consider ourselves the privileged ones. We get to take the finest high schoolers in America across America. Our goal was to give each participant the greatest trip they could ever imagine. Within this goal, we strived to teach them to lower the walls and be themselves, responsibility, and most importantly how to live for TODAY! What we didn't realize is that they would provide the same in return to us. After leaving Davidson College we drove off in the vans in silence. We couldn't bare the sight of looking in our rear view mirrors and see emptiness rather than fourteen tired and loving participants. As we drove away, individually we reflected on our favorite memories as well as our long lasting friendships. We couldn't look each other in the eyes, for fear of breaking down. This feeling was familiar but never at this degree. We just lost 84 pieces of our heart. When this occurs, you aren't quite sure how to react or how to move forward. Finally, we arrived at Dennis Deaton's house where we cleaned the trailers and vans and went out as staff members to celebrate a safe return over dinner. Falling asleep in a bed last night should have been relaxing and comfortable. There isn't a bed in the world that we wouldn't trade to go back out west to sleep under the stars with our favorite participants. Please remember that you have forever touched us and a day won't go by without our thoughts of T-DUB's 2007 Trip 1. We love you all!

We collected our many gifts and souvenirs, as well as our lost and found, before loading the vehicles for the last time.

Saying goodbye to our TWB family was harder than we expected. We are really going to miss everyone.

Driving into Davidson College brought tears of joy to our eyes. We were sad to realized TWB was coming to an end, yet Seeing family and friends waiting with smiles, balloons and signs eased our sadness.

We couldn't pile off the bus fast enough to receive our family's hugs and kisses.

Another safe and successful TWB experience. Big D, livin' the dream once again! Thank you again and we will always love you!

While holding each other tightly, we sing our favorite song together One last time.

A few of our good lookin' (but not so good smellin') studs from TWB 2007!

Check out your "chrome princess" counselor, Kitch, and your "born free, live free" counselor, Lauren! Wow, they're HOTTIES!!

Take a good look at the men behind the madness, Jackie, Grant, Bob and Dennis. What would we do without them?

Signing off with love from the 5 craziest counselors on earth. We love you and will always be here for you!

The Final "Flippin' Sweet" Armband Competition Update: Although the fellas pulled into Davidson College with possession of the sacred armbands, they soon realized it was in their best interest to return them to their beloved ladies. On their knees, Grant and Bob begged Kitch and Lauren to take them back. I guess we now know who holds all the power in the relationships! Even though we know for real that Bob and Grant are the all mighty!!!

Disclaimer: No males were present in the production of this final armband update. :)

**Second Disclaimer: Bob and Grant added the last sentence.
We then slept cozy with the armbands under our pillows.
