Day 5- Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

  TWB DAY 5

Here is a picture of the blogger group, the Sleepy's

Last night we arrived at the New Mexico Military Institute. What we thought was only going to be a school tour turned into hardcore PT (Physical Training). After the intense workout, we toured the campus. During the tour we saw Heaven and Hell, which is the barracks of the high ranking officers at the institute. It is referred to as Hell because it burned down a few years ago. We finished off with a wonderful dinner of chicken and rice and a night of star gazing for UFOs.

This morning we woke to the sound of Kitch's beautiful voice singing Rise and Shine for the fifth consecutive day. Today was the easiest day to wake up because we got the chance to sleep a few minutes later than we have the past few mornings. We loaded the bus and vans and ventured off to see the beautiful Painted Desert and Petrified Forest in Arizona. On the way there, we stopped at Cline's Four Corners in New Mexico. It was there that Owen Bruner got the wonderful idea of buying steer horns to decorate our vans. After participant contributions, we were able to fulfill Owen's random rest stop goal. Be prepared, they will be mounted soon and pictures will be coming! The Painted Desert is a beautiful site to see with its various colors and layering of rocks. The Petrified Forest is full of fallen trees that have turned into petrified rock. As the rain falls and washes away the sand, more and more trees arise from the ground as rocks. After buying souvenirs, we loaded up once more and made our way to the Grand Canyon. The ride was full of dance parties and even more bonding among the TWB participants. We stopped in Flagstaff, AZ, for real food under the golden arches of McDonalds. Right now we are on the bus watching the sunset as we travel to the Grand Canyon National Park to camp for the night. We have been drinking water and Gatorade since the first day to prepare our bodies for the adventure. We have also had several group conversations to answer questions and concerns about the hike. We can barely wait to see the most beautiful sunrise EVER early tomorrow morning. Then it is off to trek the infamous Canyon. Come back tomorrow and we will give you updates of our experience. GO HIKE A CANYON!

Note from Grant- We are bedding down tonight at 10 o'clock to hike the Grand Canyon tomorrow. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. If we are able to make a post tomorrow it will be very late.

This is the group right outside of the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.

Joseph Silvers made the sleeping picture of the day!!!

The Laurinburg crew hanging out at the Painted Desert.

Are these guys going to make the cheer leading squad when school starts?

Here is the group confused by the Petrified Wood.

Check out these guys on that Petrified Tree!

Wow, Grant you sure are a super counselor. You can hold up your whole group.

This group is in our Rangers In Training program. I think someday they will make fine rangers.
